  1. Visit the official NSDL PAN Tracking web page.
  2. On opening the web page, you will see many credentials to fill up. So, let’s get started!
  3. Enter your first name, Last name and the middle name under the respective columns.
  4. From the drop-down menu, select your date of birth.
  5. Click on “Submit.”

On clicking on the submit option, you will be redirected to another page where you will be able to see your PAN.

Guide to entering credentials

  • Visit the official NSDL website.
  • Under the Application Type, select “New/Change Request.”
  • Enter your name as per the given format.
  • Enter your date of birth in the format DD-MM-YYYY, or you can choose from the drop down menu.
  • Click on that small dot beside the name. Since you don’t have your PAN, you have to go with the name and date of birth verification.
  • Click on “Submit.”

On clicking on submit, you will be redirected to a new page where you will be able to find your PAN. Also, do note and take into consideration that if your PAN Card has already been delivered, then they will show you on the screen that your PAN Card has already been delivered.

Today we are going to discuss on how you can apply for your PAN Card via Online PAN Card Application Form. Now, we have two organizations through which you can apply. First, NSDL and second, UTI. A PAN Card is a 10-digit alpha-numeric permanent number that is issued by the Income Tax Department under the Indian Income Tax Act, 1961 under the Supervision of the Central Board for Direct Taxes (CBDT).

You can check your PAN Card Application status in three different ways:

  1. SMS Facility

Online Tracking of PAN Card Application Status

  • The Applicants those who are applying for the PAN Card and want to track down the application status can choose the online facility:
  • The Applicants must log in to the official website for PAN, TIN-NSDL. Once you visit the page, navigate the PAN section on the website. In the page, you can find an option to check your application status.
  • The applicant is required to choose the required application type -(New PAN Card or Updated Information) along with a few personal dates and a 15-digit acknowledgment number.
  • After providing the following details the website will redirect you to a new page showing your current status of your PAN application.

You have two modes to apply for a new PAN card :-

  1. Offline Mode
  2. Online Mode


In the offline mode, you need to download and fill up this – Form 49A if you are an Indian citizen and Form 49AA if you are a foreign citizen.

(Note – you need to print this form in order to fill it or you can get the printed form from any NSDL or UTIITSL branch)

You need to fill all the required personal details in the form and also attach two passport size photographs along with a proof of residential address. You need to deposit the form to the nearest PAN card office (NDSL or UTIITSL) along with a nominal fees.


In offline mode, you need to fill the form on NDSL’s website – Online Application. After filling the form, you need to make an online payment of ₹110 (inclusive of GST) through Net Banking, Debit or Credit card).

After making the payment, you will receive an acknowledgment that you need to print. You need to affix two passport size photographs in this acknowledgment. You also need to sign on the left as well as right side of the acknowledgment. On the left side, the Signature should be made across the photograph in such a manner that portion of signature is on photo as well as on acknowledgement form. On the right side signature should be within the box only.

This acknowledgment along with a proof of residential address should be sent through courier/post to NSDL/UTITSL who will then issue your PAN card.

Online PAN Application Is A Simple And Hassle-Free Process. The Income Tax Department Of India Has Authorized NSDL And UTIITSL, Two Primary Agencies For Issuing PAN Card In The Country. Online Application For New PAN Card Can Be Made On The Portals Of NSDL As Well As The UTIITSL. You Have To Fill And Submit The Applicable Form Along With Online Payment Of The Fee. Filled Form Along With Copies Of Required Documents Can Then Be Sent By Post To Either NSDL Or UTIITSL For Verification Purposes.

Guidelines for filling PAN Change Request Application

In case you want to apply for duplicate PAN card fill in all the data without selecting any box in the right side of the form.

You need to pay a fee of Rs. 107/- if the address at which the PAN card is to be delivered to is in India. In case it is in any foreign country, you need to pay an amount of Rs. 994/- due to revision of service tax rate earlier it was Rs. 989/- only.

The payment can be made by credit card/debit card or through internet banking.

On successful payment, a PDF of the application form is generated which needs to be printed and sent after signing and with two photographs to the following address: NSDLe-Governance Infrastructure Limited, 5th floor, Mantri Sterling,Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune -411016.

You can also make offline application for change of address in the PAN database.

With the application form, you need to provide the proof of the address which you want to update in the records. For address proof you can submit any of the documents like driving licence, electricity bill, telephone bill, water bill, copy of passport of the spouse, voter card, the copy of credit card bill, aadhar card, property registration document, depository statement, the certificate signed by MP,MLA or gazetted officer. You also will have to provide the proof of the PAN card, proof date of birth, identity while submitting the physical copy of the application.

What is PAN card?

PAN refers to the Permanent Account Number. PAN number is comprised of 10-digit alphanumeric number issued by Income tax department to everyone who applies for PAN card. PAN number is unique to every PAN card holder. It also serves as an identity proof. Once PAN card is issued, it remains valid for the entire life of the PAN card holder. The primary objective of PAN is to use a universal identification key to track financial transactions that might have a taxable component to prevent tax evasion. PAN card is not acceptable as a proof of Indian citizenship.

The PAN is required for most of of financial transactions such as opening a bank account, getting taxable salary or professional fees, sale or purchase of assets above specified limits etc.; especially high-value transactions. Further, there is no criterion of minimum age for getting a PAN card. Even PAN card can be issued for new born baby!

How much Time does it take to get Pan card?

Generally it takes 15-18 days to come PAN card at your home. It will take around 8-10 days to know the PAN after applying for the same. Govt. cost is Rs. 106. But it will take time to get PAN form ( form 49A) and get it filled. This is govt. process so it is not possible to get PAN card at instant. It is government procedure so no one can give you the exact time duration. But as soon as the government formalities and procedures completed, PAN card will be delivered to you. PAN number will be allotted within 7-10 working days. PAN card will be delivered to applicant within 15-20 working days after submitting documents to NSDL.

NSDL accepts PAN applications on behalf of Income Tax Department (since June 2004) through its chain of TIN-Facilitation Centres (TIN-FCs) and PAN centres set up across the country. Documents Required

Applicant should ensure that the necessary supporting documents (as specified under Rule 114 of Income Tax Department) are submitted along with the application. The details of the documents required are also provided in the application form. Name mentioned in Application form and Name in the Proof of Identity /Proof of Address should match exactly. Applicants may obtain the physical application forms from TIN-FCs, PAN centres, any other vendors providing such forms or can freely download the same from this website.

Recently the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has notified that individuals or others wanting PAN will have to furnish copies of proof of identity, address and date of birth attached with their application forms and they will be checked against their original documents when applications are submitted at PAN facilitation centres.
